Start of Soccer season....

Soccer games kicked off today. Of course, its around 100 degrees here and the boys games were at 12:15, so it was nice and hot. They had to play at the same time on different fields, which was a challenge because Joe has to "work" today. His job requires him to sit right behind the goal post at the A&M Baylor game. Tough job! Sammy doesn't seem to understand why he is not allowed on the field, and takes his own ball to the practices and games. You can know its Sammy by hearing him yell "MINE" anytime anyone comes with in 10 feet of him while he has it. You can also see him in his shin guards. I guess looking like the older boys is almost as good as playing. Luke was a lot more aggressive than he was last year, and I think it helps that it is only second graders on the team so there isn't the big age gap like last year. He has several friends on his team and he just loves being part of a team. Grant was quite the go-getter. He didn't hang back at all. He was very good at turning the ball around and getting it across the field. They don't have goalies here like they did in Oregon (which was Grant's favorite position). At one point Grant ran as fast as he could and did the best block ever to prevent a girl from getting one in (Did I mention he's aggressive???). It was quite the play! But Grant will kick around the ball for hours and enjoys practicing, and that really does show. He also is very interested in "battling" other teams. You can see him really getting into it in the pictures.

What great pictures. I can see that soccer would be fun for them, and such good exercise. I'm glad Luke likes to play better this year. I didn't realize it was the different ages of the players that could have bothered him. And Grant, I believe he is a natural athlete! Whataguy! Sammy, well by the time he is old enough to play on a team, he'll have learned so much from watching Luke and Grant, and all the other team players. It seems Sammy has a lot of energy, so this will be very good for him! Thanks for sharing these pictures, we really enjoy the chance to see them as they are growing up. We are really looking forward to December! Love, Grammy Pat.
