Start of Soccer season....

Soccer games kicked off today. Of course, its around 100 degrees here and the boys games were at 12:15, so it was nice and hot. They had to play at the same time on different fields, which was a challenge because Joe has to "work" today. His job requires him to sit right behind the goal post at the A&M Baylor game. Tough job! Sammy doesn't seem to understand why he is not allowed on the field, and takes his own ball to the practices and games. You can know its Sammy by hearing him yell "MINE" anytime anyone comes with in 10 feet of him while he has it. You can also see him in his shin guards. I guess looking like the older boys is almost as good as playing. Luke was a lot more aggressive than he was last year, and I think it helps that it is only second graders on the team so there isn't the big age gap like last year. He has several friends on his team and he just loves being part of a team. Grant was quite the go-getter. He didn't hang back at all. He was very good at turning the ball around and getting it across the field. They don't have goalies here like they did in Oregon (which was Grant's favorite position). At one point Grant ran as fast as he could and did the best block ever to prevent a girl from getting one in (Did I mention he's aggressive???). It was quite the play! But Grant will kick around the ball for hours and enjoys practicing, and that really does show. He also is very interested in "battling" other teams. You can see him really getting into it in the pictures.

Karsten in his car seat. His fingers and toes are yummy!

Samuel and Daddy!

Sammy was so happy to have him back at home!

Karsten in the "eatin' chair"

Sam threw a fit when I put him in. He kept screaming "MINE MINE MINE!" I didn't give him anything to eat, just needed a place to put the little guy for a while.

A bug we don't mind...

We are a little sick of the grasshoppers, the spiders and the scorpians, but the boys and I both liked the praying mantis that came to visit the other day. He hung out for quite a while and then he was gone.

It's Bath Time!

I took some photos of the boys tonight while taking a bath. There was no posing at all, so they are in there "natural state". Sammy sad that tub time is over
Luke, just about to do something naughty.....

Grant defending himself from getting squirted.

Samuel, Ready for ice cream!

Saying goodbye to our friend.....

Joe informed me this morning that tragedy had hit the Hoffman household overnight. Our pet fish Elmo, had passed on to clearer waters. We had read that the life expectancy of a beta is 6 months, so we were happy to have Elmo with us for 18 months of fishy fun. We'll always remember moving him all the way from Oregon to Texas in a Dutch Bros smoothie cup in the front cup holder of the Honda Odyssey. The boys were devastated at the news; Grant bawled for no less than 2 hours. We decided to give him a sunset funeral at one of the ponds in the neighborhood. It was actually Luke's idea and he was very poised throughout the ceremony, even presiding over Elmo's farewell prayer. He was a good fish and will be missed by me, Joe, the boys, and all the cats.

Karsten's new seat

"This seat's taken"
"I'm afraid to get up or someone might steal my chair!"
Thanks Karsten!

"The thinker" or "stinker"?

A giggle from the past...

When I was filing some stuff away today I came across the two Mother's Day projects Luke did last year for school. We had such a laugh, we thought we'd share them.
The first is a book with different colored pages. My Mother Is...
a doctor (complete with a boy getting a bandage)
a clock (Mommy saying "Lunch time!")
a teacher (Mommy saying "The moon is round")
a cleaner (Mommy holding a sock)
a mysterious person (Boy asking "where are we going?" Mom answering "It's a surprise!"

The next is a poem
My Mother by Luke
My mother is as pretty as a swan! She likes it when I behave. She doesn't like it when I don't behave! My mother is 32 years old and she wears a size 23 shoe! My mother's favorite food is brownies. YUM,YUM!! My mother doesn't like to play. My mother's favorite thing to do ALL BY HERSELF is to sleep. My mother likes to sleep with me. I love my mother because she is the best! My mother is special to me because I'm almost as tall as her!
